The last time I made one of these posts, I was just starting to blog and was still immersed in the late 2000s body nude trend, although even then I had some pink and a red favorites. Since then I have thrown myself more into the modern renaissance of the 90s, I rarely wear something very nude because with my coloring I feel like I need something to define the lips, so it makes me look more alive and unified. I tried to do this post multiple times, photo versions were taken four times in the last two years, but every time I had other things to check, my options became outdated because I constantly find new favorites. Especially last year I found so many cool new shades so I narrowed it down to 10 and changed everything back as I now have a proper camera. Almost all the shades here are matte because that’s my favorite finish – gloss and especially metallics aren’t my thing at all. This is also my 1000th blog post, so enjoy it.

Many people do not realize that Wüsthof is still owned and operated by the Wüsthof family. All of our production is still done in Solingen, Germany. We have been manufactured since 1814 in the Wupper River Valley and all we produce are knives. Seven generations of Wüsthofs have continued to build on the foundations laid by those who came before them. There is a Mr. Wüsthof, there is a Ms. Wüsthof, and we are preparing for the eighth generation to grow up and start working in factories and offices, and learning the business.

There is something a little different in Solingen and it is called the Solingen Decree. Solingen knives look a lot like wines from Champagne, France. To be called Champagne, it must be produced in that specific region, otherwise it is just sparkling wine. To say made in Soligen, there is a different standard of quality and cutting performance that must be met, because the city of Soligen has a worldwide reputation for steelmaking. More than 95 percent of the total cost of the product must occur in the region to say Made in Soligen. We are very proud of that fact.

What makes a Wüsthof knife so special? Is it the steel itself, or the grade of the blade, or the weight of the handle?

Confidence is one of the hardest things to achieve and I think that is why people often feel threatened by confident people. It is one of the things we love the most in life. I have slowly gained confidence over the past decade and wanted to share a few things that have really helped me.

First is to understand that trust really comes from within. Sure we can put on cute makeup and clothes and feel great … but true confidence comes from knowing yourself and loving that person. Do you know how you’ll meet a really awesome person … only to hear that they struggle with insecurities, too? You may wonder “how?” and i’ve also wondered that about people … like “how could something not feel amazing … they’re so pretty and cool” but that’s because it’s not that simple. Improving your appearance is great, however you decide you want to do that (for me, I love wearing hair extensions, I have veneers, I love a good spray tan, etc.) but all of that is surface level in comparison. with the sensations that you are. you stayed when you took off your makeup, you are in your pajamas and there is nothing and no one to distract you. How do you feel when you are alone and you stay with your thoughts? How do you feel when you look in the mirror? How do you feel when you make mistakes or have a bad day?

I have told everyone how I started therapy last year and while I was in therapy she asked me how I was feeling. I told her and then she asked me how do you know? I had a hard time answering this question … I don’t know, do I feel this way? In a nutshell, she said she felt like I needed to get to know myself more and explained why. She gave me a challenge and told me to write a list of questions in my notes on my phone and answer them every day until I started answering them naturally. I didn’t do it every day, but I did it 3-4 times a week and sometimes I didn’t answer them all. At first I didn’t know how to answer them all because some seemed redundant to me and for some reason I felt weird and emo writing the answers. I kept doing it anyway and wanted to share the questions and I will explain how it has changed my perspective and really helped me get to know myself and my employers more.

Every Sunday we try to get outside and enjoy some time in nature. Last Sunday we went hunting the Prickly Pear in bloom and this week we took our sailboat out to the lake. David used to be at the sailing club and actually proposed to me on a sailboat! So we’ve always wanted one and David found this beauty on Craigslist a few years ago. It’s been sitting in our garage and somehow we always find excuses not to go out (well, not having wind is a valid excuse, but still!) We finally made it and it was the best day. We were there on the lake for about 6 hours and it was heavenly. We set up camp under a shade tree and played in the water and David and Attie went out in the boat. In fact, we were a little nervous about the girls going out because it was actually quite windy today.

  1. If the tone of this publication feels negative it is because although I do love the church (why would I stay in it if I did not love it very much? Nobody forces me to stay … my husband would support me 100% if I wanted to leave. I stay for a reason) because my work is such that I am exposed to MANY opinions, to so many people who have access to me and can tell me what they want to say, I PERSONALLY, have had a very different experience than the of many of you. I understand that many of you have grown up in the LDS church without problems. While my experience brought many good things, there were also many things that I had to work on. I understand that many of you do not meet these critical and immature people, but I do so on a daily basis. I think many people assume that influencers are exaggerating when we say how bad the messages we receive are, but I tell them that it is bad. So I’m not going to change the way I talk about my experience just because it hurts that it’s not similar to yours? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

If you feel that this post reflects poorly on the church, I am sorry, but this is the truth for me. It bothers me that so many people are more concerned with what the church looks like and how they look in response to that, more than they care about hearing the stories of people who have left, who are considering leaving, or who have questions. Once again, we preach missionary work and a big part of that is letting go of our ego and listening to members’ concerns … not just bringing in NEW people.

I am not doing this to “justify” my life choices, so please stop saying that. I am 31 years old and have not worn my clothes in YEARS. So did I take all this time to get a justification? No. I never needed it and I never need it now. I’m also not at all “rehearsing my doubts” (quoting her comments referring to a talk at a conference) and I think that particular quote from the conference could potentially be very toxic. Why shouldn’t people voice their doubts? I think that if you are going to express your doubts, not only do it with people who agree, try also to have a different perspective so that you can seek answers and new perspectives, but I absolutely disagree that people should not “rehearse doubts” . I will not blindly follow and ask questions or express concerns just because I am told not to.

Please do not disrespect the temple garment – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is just one of many religions that wear religious garments and it is highly inappropriate to mock or mock any garment worn by any religion. I’ve talked about my stance on them, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have incredible respect for anyone of any religion who wears these garments that are incredibly special, symbolic, and powerful to them.

As I said in my first church post, I realize that these issues are by no means unique to the LDS church. I realize that these problems are found in communities and other religions. However, I can only speak to the religion I know. This applies to all of humanity.

“But the garments represent a commitment to the Lord and people can judge your commitment” (quoting a comment below) let’s say yes. What I’m saying is that people are less “your version of committed” than you and can you agree with that? They agree with that. So can they still be a part of the church and you let them do that and they care about yourself? Commitment is different for everyone and many people are happy with the level of commitment they have to the version of God they believe in.

It seems like a lot of us are at this tipping point where we’ve been a part of something, and we’ve really dedicated a large part, if not our entire lives, to this religion … and you become an adult and you really start to wondering if much of the instilled shame perhaps stemmed from some of the teachings. Of course, a lot of good things came out as well … but you can’t help but start wondering how you can teach your children within that church without them having those same shameful feelings. Shame is so great in the church, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. The first therapist I went to joked that “you never see a Mormon show up who doesn’t have a problem with shame.” So I guess the question for many of us is, how can we make that dramatic cultural change within the church? It’s possible? If not, where is it located? These are all the questions I currently have.

INSTALLATION
